What has happened and what is new?

 

Skills Development Course: Extended Range Diver (ERD)

The Extended Range Diver (ERD) SDC will be conducted in the month of August.

ERD Prerequisite:

*Divers, without BSAC Advanced Nitrox Diver Qualification, who are interested in the ERD course can contact YC to arrange to conduct the BSAC Advanced Nitrox Diver by 19th August. The Advanced Nitrox Diver Course is a weekend course (Saturday/Sunday) and could be done over the weekend of 14th and 15th August 2004, or at any mutually convenient time.
The ERD theory lessons will be conducted in Singapore before the course expedition.
  1. Schedule:
    1. Theory:
      1. 16th Aug 04 7pm to 10pm #12-08 Mt Elizabeth Medical Centre
      2. 17th Aug 04 7pm to 10pm #12-08 Mt Elizabeth Medical Centre
    2. Expedition:
      1. 19th August (PM)
        Board the Mata Ikan at Raffles Marina for Aur, Tioman and the South China Sea for practicals.
      2. 22nd August night
        Return to Singapore and disembark at the Raffles Marina.
  2. Cost:
    1. ERD Course $390 (includes course material but not dive gear)
    2. Expedition    $600
    3. Total            $990
There are places for 10 ERD participants so contact YC early if you intend to come along but not later than 31st July 2004.

Keppel Club Try-A-Dive

Try-A-Dive: Keppel Club

A Try-A-Dive session was conducted at the Keppel Club on their premises during their Family Day event on 20 June 2004. Philip Loh, Soh Chee Peng, Steven Ng and Glenn Lim got 10 people to don scuba gear for a try-out at their club pool.

Skills Development Courses: Practical Rescue Management & Advanced Nitrox Diver

As part of a new series of SDCs (starting from 2004) to allow BSAC divers to take up the Advanced Diver Qualification, 2 additional SDCs are planned to be conducted in June/July period. The Practical Rescue Management (PRM) SDC is a compulsory component for BSAC Advanced Diver Qualification; while the Advanced Nitrox Diver (AND) SDC is an option for the same grade.

PRM Prerequisite: Current BSAC member + BSAC Sports Diver Qualification.
AND Prerequisite: Current BSAC member + BSAC Nitrox Diver Qualification.

ADEX 2004

ADEX 2004

2004 will mark the 10th anniversary of ADEX, and it is coming back to where it all started - Singapore. ADEX 2004 will be held from 16 to 18 April, 2004 at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore.

Skills Development Course: Extended Range Diving (ERD) 2004

A BSAC Extended Range Diving (ERD) course will be conducted from 9 to 14 April 2004 on M V Mata Ikan. Cost is expected to be around S$1400 inclusive of oxygen, stage bottles, twin sets but excludes personal equipment. The BSAC ERD course is an extension of Advance Nitrox and an introduction to technical diving and thereafter mixed gas diving; upon successful completionof the course, participants will be able to conduct deeper and/or longer dives safely.

Prerequisite: Current BSAC member + BSAC Adv Nitrox or equivalent (tech agencies adv nitrox/technical nitrox etc)

Schedule:
09042004 0930 - 1300 Lectures on ERD
09042004 1600h depart on the Mata Ikan to the high seas.
09042004 1600h onwards preparation of personal equipment
10042004 2 training dives on Tioman (total in-water time of more than 2 hours)
11042004 2 practice wreck dives on Tioman
12042004 2 dives on the Repulse
13042004 2 dives on the Seven Skies
14042004 1 or 2 dives on the Maritime Fidelity
14042004 (night) return to Singapore

Point of departure to be confirmed.
Final choice of wrecks will depend on the weather, time and space.

As part of a new series of SDCs (starting from 2004) to allow BSAC divers to take up the Advanced Diver Qualification, a Dive Marshalling & Planning SDC will be conducted in April. The theory class will be conducted 4 April 2004 (0900 hr - 1700 hr), while the practical work will be conducted from 9 to 11 April 2004 aboard M V Mata Ikan. This SDC is a compulsory component for BSAC Advanced Diver Qualification.

Prerequisite: Current BSAC member + BSAC Sports Diver Qualification.

As part of a new series of SDCs (starting from 2004) to allow BSAC divers to take up the Advanced Diver Qualification, a Chartwork & Position Fixing SDC will be conducted in April. The theory class will be conducted 3 April 2004 (0900 hr - 1700 hr), while the practical work will be conducted from 9 to 11 April 2004 aboard M V Mata Ikan. This SDC is one of the option required for BSAC Advanced Diver Qualification.

Prerequisite: Current BSAC member + BSAC Sports Diver Qualification.
