In the opening days of the diving season on the Malaysian east coast, a few impatient members visited Redang, as the winds were still strong, they had to give a couple of days of diving, wandering on the beach.
Several trips were made to Pulau Aur on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia:1999
With the opening of the diving season on the Malaysian east coast, many members are venturing all over the coast. Bob was at Pulau Tenggol a group; and Henry went to Redang with another. Then Chen Ping organised a trip to a new destination: The Jubilee Shoals. Read Darren's account of the Jubilee Shoals Expedition.
This first Jubilee Shoals Expedition was very successful and 854 organised a few more trips to the area while the novelty lasted.
During one trip in June, member Peter Green led the group to explore a wreck from the time of World War II, confirming it to be that of the H.M.S. Thanet. Click here to read about it.1998
Early in 1998, members planned to go to Sipadan in East Malaysia, Pulang Redang in West Malaysia, Pulau Mapur of the Riau Islands in Indonesia, Manado in North Sulawesi, Indonesia and Cebu in the Philippines.
So far 1998 has proven to be very eventful, nevertheless, a number of diving forays were made outside Singapore. A few members managed to keep the date to Sipadan in May, although the organiser, Chen Ping, had to stay in Singapore to settle some personal matter. And then, two trips, led by Bob Hum and Steven Ng, were made to Pulau Tioman.
Bob's account of his second trip.In mid-September, a group of members, dragged the Diving Officer along, and made their way to Pulau Redang. Some time later Chen Ping and former member, Mun Jeng who is now resident in West Malaysia, managed a number of dives at Pulau Tenggol. Chen Ping has written an account of the dive sites he visited at Pulau Tenggol; and he is planning another trip to go there in 1999.
